A message from the SSSC for Scottish Care members

The ‘Re-imagining workforce development and planning for social services’ project was a partnership between the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and the Glasgow School of Art. The project aimed to identify improvements to the delivery of workforce development and planning services.   One of the key outcomes from this project is that (between now and March 2012) two SSSC Education and Workforce Development Advisers will aim to establish further links with the private and voluntary sectors. These advisers will establish a dialogue with employers and discuss how the SSSC can support them to meet workforce challenges.  There are three key parts to this agenda:
1) An opportunity for the SSSC to communicate key messages and resources to employers, such as the registration agenda, Continuous Learning Framework, leadership developments, implications arising from Reshaping Care, Self-Directed Support etc.
2) An opportunity for the SSSC to develop our understanding of the key skills needs and issues for the sector. The evidence will inform the SSSC’s research and reports, such as the annual Sector Skills Assessment and evidence for the Migration Advisory Committee.
3) An opportunity to discuss how the SSSC can continue to support employers in the care at home, care home for adults and housing support services in the longer term.
One of the Advisers who will be working on this project is Neil Macleod. Contact details: or call 07798 665563. Neil would welcome the opportunity to discuss how the SSSC can support your service and to hear about the key skills needs and issues for your workforce.   Please contact him using the details above. The SSSC will be working closely with Scottish Care on this initiative although this project is open to all organisations, whether they are members of Scottish Care or otherwise.
Further information about the re-imagining project is available from the SSSC’s website at www.sssc.uk.com. The SSSC is also conducting their annual study of the workforce’s skills needs and has recently published a questionnaire for people who use services and their carers. That questionnaire is also available from the SSSC’s website and also on Scottish Care’s Workforce Matters website at www.workforcematters.co.uk. Any help you can provide to promote the questionnaire to service users and carers would be greatly appreciated.
