As detailed in previous Scottish Care Bulletins, and as you will be aware, Scottish Care has since 2008 been funded by the Scottish Government to carry out a range of workforce development activities to support the private care sector. The work has been undertaken through the Workforce Initiative. This concluded in June 2011.
From 1 July, discussions have been on going with the Scottish Government, SSSC, NHS Education for Scotland and the Care Inspectorate in relation to the role of Scottish Care in its continuing contribution to the workforce development policy agenda and how this might be resourced. There are current and specific discussions with the Scottish Government to obtain funds and information will be provided when it is available.
In the meantime, Scottish Care has now secured some income to March 2012 from the SSSC to work with them on issues including how to:
• communicate to providers and the workforce the important messages and resources around the registration agenda, Continuous Learning Framework (CLF), leadership developments, reshaping care, dementia strategy, recognition of prior learning (RPL), career pathways, etc
• develop further understanding of key skills needs and issues, to facilitate improved workforce information and intelligence to support workforce planning
• hear key messages from providers about their main requirements and challenges and establish how we and the SSSC work together to support the sector.
This work has come out of the SSSC’s re-imagining project and is focussing on developing a relationship with the independent sector. We will be in touch with providers to progress the above agenda.
