*Supervisors in care home services for adults
The SSSC register for Supervisors opened in October 2007.  The position is this:

If you wish to see all the relevant qualifications for Supervisors, they are available on the SSSC website.

So, the ‘official’ position is that a nurse registered with the NMC is not required to have a separate supervisor/manager qualification. Those staff only qualified to SVQ Level 3 or equivalent do require the additional supervisory award if they are working as Supervisors, however, providers may wish to take the view that all Supervisors in care homes should have formal evidence of competence at supervisory level, including Nurses.

The item on qualifications of Supervisors in the recently negotiated COSLA settlement for care homes for this year states that all Supervisors be registered with the SSSC (or the NMC for nurses) by September this year and that "arrangements are in place for appropriate training to take place (if necessary and as defined by the SSSC)." As defined by the SSSC technically means those who possess a SVQ Level 3 qualification.
